Create your own transparent planter

Create your own CitySens transparent planter for soilless plants. Choose the plant holder, the type of glass, and the plant to combine them to your taste.

The plant holder has a diameter of 7 cm and fits the majority of standard glasses we use in the kitchen.

The soilless cultivation system invites you to observe the growth of the entire plant, both leaves and roots.

In soilless cultivation, plants feed on nutrients dissolved in the water. We recommend using the CitySens quality nutrients designed for soilless cultivation, also known as hydroponics.

The colour and screening of the glass protect the roots from ultraviolet (UV) light.

The plant holder is manufactured on demand using 3D printing at the CitySens studio in Tarragona with TuMaker NX Pro Direct Drive HR 3D printing technology.

Each plant holder is made up of 108 layers of 300 microns in height of the biopolymer polylactic acid (PLA) mixed with 40% wood.

The use of the biopolymer with wood gives the piece an organic texture and a sweet smell reminiscent of ground coffee or wet wood. The filament is manufactured in Spain with PEFC certified wood.

To manufacture the transparent planters, we collaborate with Juan Righetti, a glass artisan based in Spain. In his Upcycling Bottles project, Juan uses glass bottles collected from various bars and restaurants in the area. He cleans them and transforms them through a handcrafted process into objects of great value, helping to change the perception of what is, and is not, waste.

The plant holder has been designed by Innou, a design studio located in Barcelona, Spain, focused on product design and innovation. In 2022, it won the prestigious Red Dot Award in the product design category.

Place the stem of the plant inside the holder, with the roots clean of substrate inside the transparent planter.

Add water to cover the roots, ensuring the water does not touch the plant's stem.

Add CitySens nutrients at a rate of 4 drops of nutrients per glass of water. The plant takes in food from the nutrients dissolved in the water.

Oxygenate or change the water with nutrients once a month. Roots need oxygen for proper development.

The product includes the user manual and the components you choose from all these:

• Plant holder: made with biopolymer PLA and 40% wood through 3D printing.
• Glass planter: made with handcrafted reused glass bottles.
• Soilless plant: suitable for living without soil.
• Nutrients: a mix of micronutrients and macronutrients CitySens quality.

Your planter will be unique, created for you. The holder made with biopolymer and wood, and the Upcycling Bottles glasses may contain some imperfections due to on-demand 3D printing and the handcrafted glass bottle reuse process.

• Approximate height with the plant: 20-40 cm. We do not recommend using plants taller than 30 cm.
• Standard height of the planter: 14 cm.
• Diameter of the holder: 7 cm.
• Material of the holder: 60% biopolymer polylactic acid (PLA) and 40% PEFC certified wood.
• The Upcycling Bottles glass is handcrafted from glass bottles collected in bars and restaurants.
• The CitySens nutrients are a concentrated mix, specifically created for CitySens with the appropriate blend of macronutrients and micronutrients for soilless hydroponic cultivation.
