CREATING A WINTER GARDEN WITH PLANT SHELVES

Posted By: Equipo CitySens

A few days ago, when I was walking around the city, I had the urge to find a garden along the way, to sit in a park or just enjoy a green space, has this ever happened to you? However, it is a cold time of the year, so I changed my mind and went home. Once there, I asked myself: Why can't I enjoy my own garden at home? Is it a luxury these days to have a garden, to have the space and time to look after it and enjoy it?

Here is the translation of the text into English:

A few days ago, while walking around the city, I felt the need to find a garden along my way, to sit in a park, or simply to enjoy a green space. Has this happened to you too? However, we are in a cold season, which made me rethink that idea and go back home. Once there, I asked myself: Why can’t I enjoy my own garden at home? Is having a garden nowadays a luxury? Having the space and time needed to take care of it and enjoy it?

Then, I remembered a small but significant book: *Praise of the Earth: A Journey to the Philosopher Byung-Chul Han’s Garden*. I want to share with you a couple of reflections from this book that, in my opinion, are essential in the times we live in. The connection between city dwellers and nature is, unfortunately, becoming increasingly scarce. Having a private space to contemplate and reconnect with the earth is almost non-existent, and we must remember that a garden is not just an aesthetic space; it is also a "refuge" from the frantic pace of modern life. For Han, the act of taking care of a garden is a form of resistance, a "useless" time, but profoundly meaningful: I quote a paragraph from his book: “To return to the earth means, therefore, to return to bliss. Today we abandon it, mostly due to the digitalization of the world. We no longer receive that life-giving force from the earth that makes us happy. The earth is reduced to the size of a computer screen.”

Han suggests that gardens are a reflection of the soul of the person who cares for them and that each garden has a unique identity. In other words, it is an extension of our essence, and although we often criticize how technology has distanced humans from nature, it is also true that, at times, it can be a bridge to facilitate our reconnection with the natural world in urban environments. I want to recommend this book. I am sure that each of us will find in it inspiration to create our own garden, our little corner of connection with nature! In my case, I decided to create a garden, "My refuge at home," adapted to my space, my limited time, and my limited knowledge of plants. Don’t laugh, but my plants always die because I water them too much! I am guilty of overprotecting everything!

The important thing, as I achieved it: With CitySens as my ally in this project.

Space for plants: plant shelves

For my living room, I opted for plant shelves, which I customized by choosing the color, the number of shelves, and the accessories. [+info]
